Wat Phra That Sri Chom Thong

Wat Phra That Sri Chom Thong

This temple is a little bit out of a 'standard' tourist's way.  Located south of Chiang Mai, it is one of the oldest and most famous temples in Northern Thailand. The chedi was built in 1452. The temple features an active meditation center, which is also visited by people from the West. When we visited for a second time in 2005 both the Chedi and both Viharns were under massive renovation and the Buddha images were "behind bars" in the large preaching hall. We did come back during Loy Krathong in 2007 a perfectly renovated temple was waiting for us. The cross-formed large viharn with the beautiful statue of Luang Phor Phet and many other statues and details as well as the huge amount of ancient Buddha statues in the small viharn are especially noteworthy to see.
