Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai

Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai

I wish I wouldn't just remember the town of Bang Phli for the worst construction planning in Thailand. It took us over an hour to get through an otherwise small town in September of 2007 to Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai. The temple is also called Wat Phlabphlachai Chanasonkhram and is home to one of the most revered Buddha images in the country - Luang Phor To. According to a legend Luang Phor To is part of three important Buddha images which escaped the fighting with the Burmese invaders and floated down the Chao Praya River until they reached their destination. The other two images are located in Wat Sothorn and in Wat Ban Laem. Luang Phor To is a Sukhothai-style image and four festivals in various months happen to celebrate this Buddha statue. This is also a very busy temple, specially on weekends when people come to this temple to pay their respect and attach gold leaves to the image.
