Wat Thep Charoen

Cave Rap Ro

Wat Thep Charoen in the country side of Chumphon is best known for its cave Tham Rap Ro. The temple itself was quite busy during our visit with a funeral and an ordination ceremony happening on the same day. Several huge caves are located right above the temple buildings. Right at the entrance of the cave are several Ayutthaya-style Buddha images. A large reclining image as well as a large seated Buddha image are located amongst dozens of smaller images inside the caves, which are said to have been inhabited as early as 2000 years ago.
